Meshcapade

At Grace Communications, we are always looking for new ways to innovate and stay ahead of emerging trends in digital content creation. Our latest venture? Bringing our company mascot, Dear Grace, to life in 3D using Meshcapade—a newly released tool that enables the creation of fully customisable 3D human avatars with realistic motion capabilities.

The Power of Meshcapade

Meshcapade is an advanced platform that allows users to generate detailed 3D avatars from simple inputs, such as a headshot. The tool offers extensive customisation, enabling adjustments to body shape, height, and overall appearance. It also provides motion capture capabilities, allowing avatars to move according to user-defined descriptions or even video references.

For this project, I started by generating an avatar of Dear Grace from a headshot, refining the details to ensure the final model embodied her unique look and personality. Once satisfied with the appearance, I rendered the 3D avatar, ready for animation.

Making Dear Grace Move

To truly bring Grace to life, I needed to give her movement. With the Strictly Come Dancing tour going around the country, I decided that a dance animation would be the perfect way to showcase her new 3D form. Using Meshcapade’s motion tools, I applied a lively dance routine to Grace, ensuring the movements were smooth and engaging. Once I was happy with her performance, I exported the animation in video format.

Transforming Dear Grace

The next step was to apply her distinct ‘skin’—the signature look that makes her recognisable. After exporting the animated avatar, I utilised a separate Ai platform to map Grace’s design onto the 3D model. This process ensured that the final animation looked and felt like Dear Grace, rather than a generic avatar.

Placing Grace in Any Scene

To maximise the flexibility of our final animation, I imported the export into Runway, where I applied a green-screen technique. This allowed me to remove the background seamlessly using Premiere Pro. With a transparent background, Grace could now be placed into any scene, whether it’s a virtual stage, an office space, or a Strictly ballroom backdrop.

A Glimpse Into the Future of 3D Content

One of the standout features of Meshcapade is its ability to export in multiple formats, making it compatible with tools like Unreal Engine, Blender, and Maya. This opens up a world of possibilities for integrating 3D avatars into immersive environments, from interactive experiences to high-end visual effects.

Our work on bringing Dear Grace to life in 3D is just one example of how we’re exploring cutting-edge tools to push creative boundaries. By staying on top of emerging technologies, we ensure that our content remains fresh, dynamic, and ahead of the curve.

Stay tuned for more innovations as we continue to blend technology, Ai with our unique creativity!
